Miles by Vedant (www.milesbyvedant.com) is a personal travel journal run by Vedant Vartak. This page explains what the site collects, why, and how you can have it removed.
What I collect
- Newsletter sign-ups. If you subscribe, I store your email address, the date you signed up and the page you signed up from. It's used only to email you about new trips, treks and stories. To block spam sign-ups, your IP address is also counted for up to one hour and then automatically discarded.
- Poll votes. When you vote on where I should travel next, only the vote count for each destination is stored, not who voted. Your browser remembers that you voted so you can't vote twice.
- Enquiries. The Work With Me form opens your own email app; nothing is stored on this site. I only see what you choose to send.
- Preferences in your browser. Your light/dark theme, music choice and similar settings are saved in your own browser (local storage) and never sent to me.
I don't use advertising trackers and I never sell or share your information.
Instagram content
The Gallery page shows posts from my own Instagram account (@vedant_vartak) using Instagram's official API. The site only reads my public posts (photos, videos, captions and links). It does not access your Instagram account or collect any data about visitors through Instagram.
Where data is kept
The site is hosted on Vercel. Newsletter emails and poll counts are stored in a private Redis database connected to the site. Embedded maps load tiles from map providers, which may see your IP address like any website you load content from.
Deleting your data
To unsubscribe or have your email (or any other data) deleted, email milesbyvedant@gmail.com with the subject "Data deletion request" and the email address you used. I'll delete it within 30 days and confirm by email.
